Celebrate Father’s Day with Bonobos.com

“He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.”

– Clarence Budington Kelland

With Father’s Day just round the corner, every kid is trying to make ‘daddy’ feel extra special. There are a million synonyms to the word father. For me its ‘Baba’, for somebody else it might be ‘Papa’ or ‘Daddy’. Whatever you may call him, he is your wall, a figure you draw courage from. A figure who is your shield from the world outside. I remember my Baba (Dad) telling me,   “I will feel, I have made a mark in the lives I have touched when my grandkids remember me as a good man.” That was all that he wanted out of life at the end. To be remembered as a good man. I was astounded by the simplicity of the words which held so much depth at the same point of time. I have learned life lessons at his knee and still I feel I have so much more to learn.

On this special day dedicated to all the fathers around the world, I thought of that thing which I guess most of our fathers are bad at – Shopping for themselves. He is our natural bank but always forgets to shop for himself. Holding on to that thought, I surfed the internet and came across this amazing site called http://www.bonobos.com/.I will give you a little introduction about Bonobos before I futher delve into their awesome collection.

Bonobos is a clothing brand focused on delivering great fit, high energy, and superb customer experience. Launched in 2007 on the Internet with its signature line of better-fitting men’s pants, Bonobos is now the largest apparel brand ever built on the web in the United States. In 2011 Bonobos extended offline, launching Bonobos Guideshops, e-commerce showrooms that deliver personalized, one-to-one service to those wanting to experience the brand in-person. In 2012, Bonobos expanded its distribution partnering with Nordstrom, bringing Bonobos apparel into select doors nationwide and to Nordstrom.com. Across channels, Bonobos is focused on delivering a well-targeted brand promise: world-class fit, an innovative shopping experience and an energetic brand spirit. Bonobos was named “One of America’s Hottest Brands” by Advertising Age, “Best Men’s Pants” by New York Magazine, one of Inc. Magazine’s “20 Awesome Facebook Pages” and was awarded Crain’s “Best Places to Work in New York City”.

They have this Father’s Day gift guide section which already has ensembles made. It certainly helps you a lot because it covers all the basics and makes life much simpler. Other than that what made me love this site is the collection they have (too bad, it does not ship to India) I feel in love with their collection of Dress Shirts and  Summer Suits. The colors and prints is what made me fall in love with the collection. It caters to a large segment of men and can definitely made you look sleek and fashionable. The suit collection is to to die for. Whenever we think about suits the first thing that comes to our mind is black or grey but their suit collection will definitely open your eyes to a broader spectrum. Do check out their site. Its great and a very refreshing change from what we generally see.

Suit It Up

I have always heard men whining about how they don’t have enough variety in clothes to make different looks like women. For them its the same look everyday, either jeans t-shirt or shirt and trousers. But as I have always stated the trick lies in mixing and matching and when it comes to men then definitely layering up.

I have generally seen men wear the same old boring shirt and trousers to work everyday. All you need to do is layer it up a little and add a few different kinds of shoes to your shoe rack and see how the same boring stuff turns into something new. I have listed a few suggestions on how to layer up and make things look more interesting. Hope it helps you to change your look with the help of your existing wardrobe.

Delhi Couture Week – Manish Malhotra

Imagine a 1930’s India and a Maharani walking into her living room with plush sofas, couches, chandelier and flowers set in crystal vases. Such was the sight when you entered Manish Malhotra’s show for the Grand Finale. Set in British India, the clothes had a regal vintage touch to it. Christian Louboutin made all the shoes which will be sold under the new line ‘ Christian Louboutin For Manish Malhotra’.  The metal tipped shoes for men is something which every man should have in his closet.

The clothes were gorgeous and there is no denying that. Some may get a little overwhelmed with all the bling but what is a bride without all that bling and richness. I loved the collection, specially all the navy coloured ensembles. Truly Manish, a very regal way to end a couture week.

Delhi Couture Week – Gaurav Gupta

Gaurav Gupta’s Show ‘Lightfall’ had some beautiful red carpet gowns which set new standards for the Indian red carpet. The show started with a complete see through gown which was beaded and sequinned. It was definitely a mood lifter and made people wait with bated breaths for the rest of the show to follow. Gaurav Gupta gave us a taste of some amazing gowns but a few hit below the standards he had set for his own show. Overall the only show to go non bridal and down the red carpet lane.

Delhi Couture Week – Manish Arora

Manish Arora is the only Indian designer to be showcasing in Paris Fashion Week every year without fail. It was Manish Arora’s first step into Indian bridal wear and lo behold! what a splendid collection it was. Manish Arora was showcasing a purely Indian collection after 10 long years. He distributed whistles among the audience before the show started and soon all his fashion fraternity friends started hooting and whistling for him.

If you walk into a Manish Arora fashion show you see a drama unfold. This year the stage was set with painted cardboard swans, earthen pots, lotuses and hearts. It was the only show to have a circular ramp inspired from the village pond. The show consisted of girls walking in clothes inspired from the baroque period and the Buddhist temples. The collection had girls walking in coloured eye masks dressed in beautiul kurtas, churidars, lehengas, bandhgalas, anarkalis and sarees.

The show was a fully choreographed theatre performance with the background score being from Gangs of Wasseypur. Manish Arora once again proved his mettle by delivering an amazing bridal collection this year.

Delhi Couture Week – Ritu Beri

We all love being Daddy’s little princess, but after seeing Ritu Beri’s creation walk down the ramp you feel like its time to be the queen. A collection which not only stunned everybody but also made everyone crave to own a piece from this collection. The show started with a model dressed as a bride walking with four other models holding a dupatta like in a typical Punjabi wedding. The veil of the bride had been transformed into golden masks, which made the look all the more desirable. This ‘Punjabi Rock & Roll’ named collection brought with it the true essence of the state in its full glamour and grandeur. Victorian inspired sculpted gowns, shararas, suits set the ramp on fire.

A beautiful collection which seemed more of a celebration rather than just being limited to the boundaries of a fashion show.
